During the 1st week of term 4 we have been following the Commonwealth Games.

On the wall we have displayed a Medal Table which we have updated every day.

On the far wall a Commonwealth Games Display is up for everyone to enjoy.

We'd like to thank all our NZ Athletes who went over to the Games to Represent our Country & a special congratulations to all our Athletes that brought home medals!!!

Alice in wonderland

This book has cartoon like pictures and it has an inference of some of the characters, glossary, and it also tells you about the author and illustrator at the back of the book. Duffys 15th Birthday & Hats in Literature

This week is Duffy's 15th Birthday!

To celebrate his birthday we are having competitions based on hats in Literature.

Design a new hat for Duffy! He's had the same hat for 15 years...

The best designs will win prizes & be invited to the mad-hatters party on Thursday.

All week during morningtea & lunchtime we will be reading books or watching movies with stories that have hats as a main feature in the plot.

Steelers interview Part II

Last Tuesday the

"Hardcore Steelers Supporter Reporters"

got to go out to Growers stadium to re-interview Tana and do a follow up report.

Once again the Steelers Management & Players made us feel like part of the whanau, allowing the boys to kick the ball around, get up close to their training & let the boys ask a few questions for their interviews.

The latest report can be viewed on "You tube" just type in Randwick Park School Tana Umaga & you'll find it. We're going to be out doing more interviews so watch this space...

Manurewa Intermediate League Winners

"There he goes running up the side line steps in then out. He's going, he's going... TRY... to Randwick Park School" That's what I would of said if I was commentating the final Randwick Park School vs Wiri and of course we won.

We could of won with our eyes closed. Nah I'm just joking it was really hard and it was a relief when we won the Manurewa tornament because we knew all the blood sweat and tears that we put into our training paid off.

STEELERS TRAINING & CHAT WITH TANA UMAGA

Lorenzo, Justice, Dan, Emily, and Whaea Maja all went to Bruce Pulman Park today to watch the Manukau Steelers train before their big match this weekend against Southland to challenge for the Ranfurly Shield.

We were lucky enough to get to interview "THE MAN!" Tana Umaga. It was a great experience for all of us. We learn a lot about the Steelers & Tana Umaga. The Counties Manukau team are awesome, they made us feel at home and even asked if we would join them for a BBQ. Were even allowed to kick the ball around with them.

Today was AWESOME! I hope to get picked to go on another trip like this.

Thanks to the Counties Manukau Steelers for letting us hang out with them today and thanks to our Teachers & Principal who let us go.

During our term one holidays a group of students came back to school for our first practice for school production !

we had to do some drama exercises and then we got onto the real stuff which was our first act for the musical. Mrs Lologa and Mr Lologa chose random people to act the parts. The next day we were told who was going to perform those parts! We were then broken into our groups which were villages, cannibals, warriors and the main actors like the faifeau,King, Queen, Lagi,Losa and the kings son prince Va'a, then after that we got onto our first dances taught by Sandra and Lily was pretty complicated but at the end it was perfect. We learnt 8 more dances and then after hours of dancing we had a shared lunch !

Our first cannibal King performance was nerve wrecking for most of us especially our main actors , villagers took it pretty well in all the dances because they were cheered on by their peers , a lot of our cast were shaky at the beginning but by the end we had a lot of good feed back from the audience saying that they LOVED the show and that the dances were awesome.

By our second performance we learnt from of a lot our mistakes that we did on the first performance and improved on it a lot, it was just like the first one but we all gained confidence and acted with expression because we all had faith in each other thats how we made it through !

our very last performance was awesome but at the same time sad because we all knew it was going to be OVER !

It has been a while since the last blog entry due to the fact the Cannibal King 2 Production has been on. The Library has been home to the Kapahaka Group all week. We have had practices during our morning tea & lunch breaks & after school. Whaea Maja, Whaea Rhi & Mrs Maxwell have sacrificed a lot to get this group ready for production. Thanks to all the kids in the Kapahaka Group, YOU GUYS ROCK!!!

Following Samoan Language week we held an Ilavalava Day for all Staff & Students. Those who wanted to were able to come to school dressed in traditional Samoan dress or an Ilavalava. These girls are but few who came dressed for the occasion.

Teaching Students how to use "ANIMOTO"

ICT is an important class for all our students. It gives them a chance to research topics and learn how to use the programs to present their work.

We endeavor to teach them new and interesting ways to showcase their work.

Mrs Davis has introduced us to ANIMOTO. It is a fun and easy way for the Students to present their work in slideshow form. Here is an example of what one of the students in room 9 has created.

THE SPORTS BOOK

The sports book is really cool because it’s all colourful and easy to read. It has animated pictures and diagrams to show you how they play the sport and the rules. It has so much information about all sorts of sports. The grass cover of the book looks very inviting and fun to feel.

The nominees for the New Zealand Post Book Awards 2010 were displayed in the Library last week. Students were given the opportunity to vote for the book of their choice. We collected 294 votes in total. All votes cast have been posted in to the NZ Post Book Awards and will go towards the overall tally. Official Winner will be announced on May 2010.

After the ANZAC service we placed the Poppies from our wall of remembrance on the cross in front of Memorial in Manurewa.

ANZAC Day Dawn Parade Manurewa

Before sunrise we gathered around the Memorial in Manurewa. Once the Returned Servicemen and Officials arrived the service began, it was very moving. Reveille was played just as the sun began to rise, it was a beautiful service. It was so nice to see some of the Teachers and Students from Randwick Park School there and so many of our rangatahi participating in Dawn Parade.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

ANZAC Day Display

During the week Students came into the Library and ICT to do research for Anzac Day. Using information and images gathered from the Internet, books and personal family stories we were able to created a display. Some students were able to find their grandparents who had served for the NZ forces during WWI and WWII using the Auckland Museum Cenotaph website. In memory of our Grandfathers, Great Grandfathers, Friends and Family who served and fought with the ANZACs we placed photos of them to our wall with an ANZAC Poppy. On Sunday we will take the Poppy's to dawn Parade in Manurewa to place them in the Wreath there. Thank you to everyone who helped with the Anzac Display. A lot of thought and hard work went into it and it looks fantastic.

Thomas' Polyfest Report

On Friday 19 of March 2010 our RPS reporters went to the annual ASB Polyfest. This year was the 35th Anniversary of the event.

It was a fun action packed day. We saw lots of different cultures perform, there were Samoan, Tongan, Maori, Cook Island and Niuean Stages and lots of other groups performed during the breaks.
We interviewed TV Presenters, Students, Police Officers and heaps more. The saddest part of the day was leaving Polyfest, every one enjoyed their day, Especially me!

Cherokee's Polyfest Report

Attending Polyfest 2010 was the best experience this year!

Sheridan & I were the main Reporters for the Maori Stage. We had to interview people about the Polyfest & what makes it so Awesome. We spoke to a variety of people from all over Auckland, from different Schools and Church Groups, we even got to speak to Tiare from Pukana. It was interesting to hear what they had to say.

The best part of my day was watching the James Cook Kapahaka Roopu perform. They were inspiring to watch, one day I would like to perform as good as them.

For me the Maori stage was by far the best.

Being there to experience the different cultures through music and dance was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I will definitely be going back next year.

Randwick Park School Information Centre Blog.

This year with the help of my School Librarians/ICT Mentors we will endeavor to keep you up to date with whats happening here in the Library & ICT Lab.

I'd like to say a big

THANKS

to all students who applied for the Librarian/ICT Mentor positions. It was hard trying to select from so many exceptional candidates. The Roster is now up in the library for viewing.

The Library & ICT Lab are now in full swing. It has been a great start to the year. Our new Librarian/ICT Mentors are taking on more responsibilities in 2010. Most of them have been selected to do extension work in the ICT so watch this space for updates of their mahi this term.

We have already ordered in hundreds of new books & subscribed to new Magazines which should keep our tamariki stimulated & well informed throughout the year.

"COOL READERS CLUB" forms are available from the Library office if you would like one. 87 Students have already signed up for 2010, get in quick as "COOL READERS" applications will close at the end of term 1.

If at any time you need to contact me, Whaea Maja, in the Library feel free to stop in for a chat or call the school number & ask to be put through to the Library.
